Chances are, you either ARE a woman or you KNOW one, or maybe even both. If so, this dance is for you! :)

Some of you know that recently I have been having a lot of thoughts & feelings regarding the mastectomy I had five years ago, so the theme of "women" is pretty poignant for me right now, particularly the idea of what it takes to be a *strong* woman. I love dancing a theme that matters to me, so here we go...

Being a woman (cis or trans) is a complicated business, requiring many different kinds of strengths. Rather than try to define what those strengths are, we're just going to celebrate & praise the many ways women can & do show up in the world (even some of the fucked up stuff). We're going to exhalt the strength it takes to be a woman and/or to support the strong women in your life. This dance won't be about reclaiming your feminine side, though you are perfectly welcome to do that. We're not going to cling to archetypes either, but if there's one that resonates for you, please dance her! And don't expect the music to be some kind of Lilith Fair production, either. (In fact, leave your expectations at home, and just be present. THAT'S STRONG!)

COMMUNITY ALTAR:
Kevin will be making the foundation for the altar, and we encourage you to bring items that you want to include.
Please bring anything (non-animate) that to you represents a strong woman you know or admire, an archetype that resonates, or something that reminds you of your own strength.

OPENING CIRCLE will consist of a short grounding exercise led by Kevin Haggerty and a poem by Marge Piercy read by Katrina Koleto. Then, we dance!!

7:45 - Doors open (for dance)
8:00 - Opening circle (please be present for the circle)
8:10 - Dance
10:00 - Closing circle
