Synthesis Dance: Held says
Held

To be held. To be held when we really need it. When we’re feeling our weakest. “Weak.” It can be uncomfortable just to say the word. Can we even admit to feeling weak? How many times has any of us admitted to another that we're feeling weak? When we feel weak and we aren’t held, from earliest childhood on, what we learn is shame.

But there’s nothing in weakness to be ashamed of. We’re weak when we’re small. We’re weak when we desire to do more than we can manage right now. For whatever reason. We’re weak when we’re tired, when we’re grieving, when we’re injured or ill.

Our weakness, rather than being the invitation for nurturing care that it truly is, becomes our fault, our failing. We’re wrong for being small, for wanting more, for needing rest, for feeling deeply, for falling ill. All too often we end up judged, by others or ourselves, when what we need is to be held.

We, as a community, can hold each other. Why do you think they call dance a "container?" Dance can contain our feelings, our fears, our feeling too weak to stand on our own. There's room for each of us and every part of us to be held.

On Thursday night, come to OmCulture and let’s hold each other and dance!

Love,

Katrina and Kevin
