North Seattle College Art Gallery says
Unknown Landscapes Navigating Internal Experience through a Pacific Northwest Lens is an exhibition of six Seattle-based artists who rely upon the camera to actualize their work. I am captivated by the ways in which artists of the Pacific Northwest use natural spaces to reflect upon subjective experiences as a process of navigating the unknown, with ideas of identity, mysticism, and the landscape as a framework for contemplative gestures being present strains of thought in the artists' works. These interests relate to my own studio art practice in which I often investigate a bodily relationship to the land through ritualistic, idiosyncratic actions that are performative in nature, ephemeral, and often fulfill their own purposes-the notion of the beau geste persists.

A secondary strand of thought pertinent to the show is that the artists included are navigating the photographic image from many vantages - the images as sculptural object, the image as performative intervention, the photographic collage, and the moving image. I find a parallel between the fluidity of these practices and the ways in which the natural is subjectively understood.
