John and Andrea Gill will present the processes and ways of thinking that have been the core of their making practice for the past thirty years. A magician with slabs, John will demonstrate how he conjures us forms, using cues from history and his keen observation of the world. Andrea will show her method of using simple press molds to create large, volumetric work that becomes a canvas for her intense, pattern-filled surfaces. Covering a variety of surface techniques and ways of firing, the Gills will introduce the participants to how form develops, and how their connection to Ceramic science has their understanding of clay and glaze materials.
