Time Out says

3 out of 5 stars

Club Moti’s name comes from a combination of the words “motivation” and “inspiration” and is phonetically similar to the Korean word “motung-ee,” meaning corner (Moti is actually located on a corner by Sangsangmadang in Hongdae). Moti opened last October dangerously close to Hongdae’s iconic Club M2, as if to openly challenge its 12-year tradition. The most unique characteristic of Moti is that you can choose between two zones: EDM and hip-hop. Choose according to your music tastes or your mood that day or just go to both! The rectangular shapes of the dance floors are perfect for for hip-hop performers, and many popular singers, including Heize of Unpretty Rapstar and Incredible of the song “Oppa-cha,” have already come and gone. Be on the lookout for more performances by both famous and underground hip-hop rappers. Though large parties at Moti satisfy hip-hop lovers, they don’t always cater to the needs of EDM fans. Another problem Moti faces is its lack of originality in content compared to that of other clubs. Nothing remarkable differentiates this venue from its rivals. Will Moti be able to solve these challenges and become the next iconic club in Hongdae? I, for one, will be keeping my eyes and ears wide open!
