Once

Once is one of the very few foreign independent films that had unprecedented success in Korea. The musical’s first licensed performance in Korea back in 2014 was also a huge hit. Six months later, the original cast of Korea’s favorite film find themselves on the stage here once again. Once is an actor-musician musical. The actors not only act and sing, but they also play the instruments themselves. Due to this fact, some adjustments had to be made to the show, as it was too difficult to find an actor who could play the cello in the role of the bank manager and so he plays the guitar instead. Music is at the heart of the film’s success, and the same lies true for the musical version. It is a profoundly moving experience to hear the beautiful songs from the movie being performed live on stage, and with the original cast, it is just that much more poignant.
