Each day will feature two, hour-long workshops:

The first will showcase traditional Chinese dance techniques followed by a short choreography.

The second will introduce modern Chinese Pop as used by current dance groups in China.

We request that attendees donate $5 per workshop to cover costs including studio rent fees. Thanks!

Instructors' Bio
Melody Li, originally from Canton, is currently a PhD Candidate in Comparative Literature at Washington University. Melody began her dance training at youth, when she performed in Guangdong TV Station. She learned and performed different types of dancing during college, including Chinese dance, modern dance, jazz, belly dance, Korean pop, etc. She used to be founder and leader of a dance team in University of Hong Kong, and is currently the dance team leader of Chinese Student and Scholars Association at Washington University. Some of her works include “Moonlight in the Pond,” “Silk Road” (Chinese dance) “Sana Wara Sana,” “Ala Meen,” (belly dance), “Telephone” (Jazz), etc. (some can be seen in Youtube by searching “Melody Li”)

Cynthia Ma, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is currently a Computer Science graduate student at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Engineering. Growing up, she occasionally learned and performed traditional Chinese dances at local Chinese weekend schools. As an undergraduate at Swarthmore College, she studied Flamenco and Salsa. After joining the CSSA dance team, she returned to Chinese dance, performed at GALA and the CSSA Spring Festival.
