Pulitzer Arts Foundation says
Reception at 5:30pm; Lecture at 6pm

PXSTL returns as a temporary structure for community-based programming, organized by the Pulitzer and the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. Following an international call for nominations, three finalists will present their past work and address the role of creative interventions in urban transformation. The winning designer will lead students from the Sam Fox School to develop the structure, which opens in Spring 2017. This program will be held in the Sternberg Auditorium at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.

2017 Design Competition & Commission
For the second iteration of PXSTL, the competition winner will also participate in a teaching residency, leading a team of students from the Sam Fox School's Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design. Under the direction of the commissioned individual or team, these students will contribute to the development of the concept and design of the structure, enhancing their educational experience through both the innovative application of design concepts and the integration of community-oriented practices.

The PXSTL finalists are architects Merve Bedir and Jason Hilgefort, of Randstad, Netherlands, and Istanbul; artist Mary Ellen Carroll, of New York and Houston; and architect Amanda Williams and educator Andres L. Hernandez, of Chicago. They were selected for their vision, their proven commitment to community engagement, and their record of cross-disciplinary collaboration. The competition winner will be announced in early spring following public presentations by the finalists on February 15, 2016, in St. Louis.
