Narrated by Anthony Edwards, star of the popular television series "ER," “24/7/365” goes behind the scenes of emergency medicine to tell the powerful story of the specialty's maverick founders. Their determination to save lives and improve public health transformed the American medical landscape. The film tells the personal story of these pioneers and the powerful experiences that shaped their resolve and created their livelihoods. Emergency medicine, surprisingly, is basically only about 50 years old -- not until the mid-’60s did the modern ER begin to take shape, and there was a mighty battle against the medical establishment to force the change. The film links ER developments to historical markers -- e.g., the urban riots in the '60s, which overwhelmed ERs and clarified problems -- and it makes pointed commentary about the vital role of ERs in ensuring that everyone has access to medical care.
