Cian Westmoreland, member of Veterans For Peace, was one of the US Air Force communications experts who built a critical component of the global communications infrastructure underlying the drone program. It covered for 621,000 (240,000 sq miles) square kms over Afghanistan. As they say in the US Air Force "No comms, no bombs".
Cian has spent a great deal of time thinking about responsibility, and how communications technology has been used to distance people from the act of killing. He will talk about the diffusion of responsibility in drone warfare and where it may lead us in the future as well as his efforts toward reconciliation with the drone victims families.
