A new travel survey has revealed that despite the chaos of the last few months, the majority of Switzerland is still planning a holiday in 2020, but that the trend is to stay put and enjoy Switzerland’s own charms, instead of embarking on international travel.

The research by digital marketing agency Mindnow found that 82% of the 1,773 Swiss nationals surveyed said they were planning on a holiday this year, and 71% of respondents thought that holidays should be booked within Switzerland to boost the country’s tourism industry. Geneva and Ticino were both particularly big fans of the staycation vibe, with around 95% of both regions favouring Swiss holidays.

As for people’s favourite Swiss destinations, Graubünden came out top in the survey with 44% of votes, followed by the Bernese Oberland (34%), the Valais (31%) and Ticino (30%). Unsurprisingly, 63% of respondents said they would be driving to their holiday destination this year, although 48% said that they wouldn’t mind getting on a plane.

Keeping fit and healthy appears to be on people’s minds more than ever, as wellness and sports were found to be the most appealing types of holiday for respondents, while 17% said they wanted their 2020 Swiss holiday to be at a campsite.

Clearly, this is all very positive news for the Swiss tourism industry. And as it happens, we also think that Switzerland is a pretty incredible place to explore, with countless opportunities for great holidays.
