Time Out Market Porto just keeps winning. After receiving the National Urban Rehabilitation Award in May of this year, in two categories - Best Commercial & Services Intervention and Best Intervention in the City of Porto - this week it once again took to the stage, in Leiria, to receive one of the 2025 Real Estate Awards, in the category “Rehabilitation and Reconstruction – Commerce”, an initiative by Expresso in partnership with SIC Notícias.

Now in its seventh edition, the event aims to distinguish and recognise works, projects and real estate mediation initiatives in Portugal that were completed between January 1 and December 31, 2024. The urban rehabilitation of Time Out Market Porto, designed by architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, stood out for having “transformed the space into a gastronomic and cultural hub, preserving the essential elements of the original construction while adapting the interior to accommodate 13 restaurant units,” as stated in the official announcement.

The restoration of the south wing of São Bento Station also included the creation of a new public square, where “a 21.4-metre-high metal structure was erected, inspired by old railway water tanks, now offering a privileged view over the São Bento hill and the Clérigos Tower.” The project and construction were carried out with the goal of balancing the functionality of a contemporary food market with the preservation of a historic site classified as UNESCO World Heritage.

“The Time Out Market Porto project is an inspiring example of how urban rehabilitation can bring together history, culture, and innovation in perfect harmony. It preserves the unique identity of São Bento Station while creating a contemporary space. We are immensely proud to receive this 2025 Real Estate Award, which recognises precisely that aspect of our project, the transformation of the urban space with respect for the past and a vision for the future,” says Inês Santos Almeida, General Manager of Time Out Market Porto.

This year, 22 awards were presented among 60 competing projects, evaluated across eight categories – from new construction to rehabilitation, including sustainability, interior architecture, and innovation.
