Time Out says

If your idea of shortbread comes from the cookie aisle at the supermarket, prepare for a revelation. Shortbread Society, founded by Chef Scottish Francis and Christine Von Becker Legge, has turned a Scottish classic into one of the most talked about desserts in New York.

Francis was born in Scotland and grew up learning to cook at his grandparents side. He later became a fan favorite on MasterChef, held his own on Chopped, competed on Netflix Snack vs. Chef, and even beat Bobby Flay with a plate of fish and chips. Zagat once dubbed him the Banksy of bakers, and his flair for story and spectacle shows in every creation. His inspiration comes from his Granny Pearl’s Millionaire’s Shortbread recipe, a decadent layering of buttery shortbread, rich caramel, and glossy chocolate that has become the bakery’s signature.

Christine, who studied fine art in Syracuse before spending two decades in the design and fashion world, is the brand’s creative director. She shapes flavors, designs the packaging, runs the socials, and ensures every detail feels personal. She even hand packs each order, often with their Italian greyhound Midnight by her side, a nod to the pair of dogs that inspired the Shortbread Society logo.

Together, Francis and Christine have created more than 400 unique flavors, from seasonal specials to one time drops that inspire cult level devotion. Now, with their debut at Time Out Market Union Square, New Yorkers can taste their classics, sample special editions, and see why dessert at Shortbread Society is never just dessert.
