Time Out says

Through their ubiquitous use in manga and anime, Japanese school uniforms have become notable around the world as a pop culture icon. However, even within Japan, many people are unaware of the uniforms’ origins. Yayoi Museum seeks to shed light on the history of Japanese female school uniforms with an exhibition featuring their many designs from the early 1900s until the present day. The history of uniforms in manga will also be shown, coupled with displays of rarely seen manuscripts and historical illustrations from famous manga artists.
