Not all art is made solely for viewing. This exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, for instance, is dedicated to the fine works of Danish architect and furniture designer Finn Juhl (1912-1989).
The reputation Scandinavian design has today is due – in part – to Juhl, whose exemplary style of furniture is distinguished by an aesthetic for soft lines and dark natural wood. This exhibition will allow viewers to gain a new appreciation for interior design by highlighting Juhl’s 20th century chairs that continue to beautify otherwise bland spaces.
Towards the end of the exhibition, you’ll even get a chance to sit in a few chairs and give them a test to see how comfort and aesthetics can (and should) go hand in hand.
