Born in Myanmar but now based in New York, Chaw Ei Thein is known for her multi-disciplinary artwork that depicts the desperate situation of women under military rule in her native country. Less overtly political but drawing on equally tragic circumstances, Sri Lankan artist Krishnapriya Tharmakrishnar takes up themes like loss, forgotten memories and identity in her drawings and woodblock prints that recount her own wartime experiences. Don't miss the opportunity to compare and contrast these two creative streams at Yamamoto Gendai, where Thein and Krishnapriya's works are displayed side by side in July.
