Already home to a superb collection of Impressionist art, Hakone's Pola Museum now introduces its first exhibition of French pioneer Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The show features 14 pieces by the protagonist himself, divided up into the four themes 'Flowers', 'Females', 'Nudes', and 'Southern France and the Mediterranean', as well as over 50 paintings by artists influenced by Renoir, including works by Picasso, Matisse, and Bonnard. In addition, the museum also hosts a parallel exhibition (accessible with the same ticket as the Renoir exhibition) entitled 'Color, Line, Form: Matisse, Degas, Chagall', which is well worth the trip just by itself.
