Horyuji Temple in Nara is one of Japan's most important Buddhist temples, founded by the legendary Prince Shotoku in the year 607 and hosting one of the oldest wooden buildings in the world, the Sai-in pagoda. This exhibition celebrates the temple's many treasures, including the deity statues of Vaisravana and Kisshoten, both designated National Treasures of Japan, as well as an impressive collection of religious scupltures and paintings. Displayed alongside these are modern art works depicting the famous site of worship.
