Ikko Tanaka and Future/Past/East/West of Design

One of the most influential graphic designers of the post-war era is given the full retrospective treatment at 21_21 Design Sight this autumn. The late Ikko Tanaka may be best remembered as the first art director of Muji, but that's just one achievement in the course of a career that strove to unite modernist impulses with a deep understanding of traditional Japanese culture. ...Future/Past/East/West of Design aims to cover the complete range of Tanaka's work, from 3D objects to book covers, graphic art prints and posters, with a final section showcasing some of the designers he helped inspire.
