Jakarta, Where Punk Lives - Marjinal

The punk scene in Jakarta has grown to be the biggest in Asia, and its spirit finds perfect fit in Indonesian society where there are reasons abound to be rebellious. Poverty, corruption, and other scourges of daily life have contributed to the rise of resistance through punk culture in the years after the fall of the dictatorship. These themes are explored by journalist Ayumi Nakanishi in the documentary Jakarta, Where Punk Lives - Marjinal, which details the struggles and victories of Marjinal, perhaps the most significant Indonesian punk band thus far. There will be live performances at Moon Step by bands Rocket, Cheerio, and Daiouika before the screening, and the second-floor event space will exhibit Marjinal-related materials.
