Japan's 'cute culture' has been taking over the world for a while now, but its history and background remain somewhat underappreciated. This exhibition, entitled 'Jakuchu's Adorability and Shoen's Beauty: "Kawaii" in Japanese Art', attempts to illustrate that history through art that reaches back hundreds of years. Works depicting children, dogs, cats, insects, and other adorable creatures demonstrate the roots of 'kawaii', and there are also cutesy items such as cosmetics cases on display.
