Marking the 40th anniversary of the Ota Memorial Museum of Art, this exhibition shows original ukiyo-e paintings of Hishikawa Moronobu, who was active during the 17th century, as well as Kobayashi Kiyochika from the Meiji period (1868-1912). In addition, there will also be an examination of Katsushika Hokusai’s ‘Tiger in the Rain’ in comparison to his daughter Oi’s ‘Courtesans Showing Themselves to the Strollers through the Grille’. While Hokusai focused more on the details, such as the rain and the tiger’s fur, Oi loved to express the different shades of light. Get a closer look and see how the interests of father and daughter varied.
