Time Out says

This weekend, head to Kamakura’s Jochiji Temple for a rare performance art piece involving contemporary dance, video and music from a group of local creatives known as Scaler. This is Scaler’s third event in its ongoing series titled ‘Rei Instar’, which explores the topics of time, transformations, ambiguity and rituals that play a part in our life cycles.

The tranquil venue of Jochiji was deliberately chosen as the exhibition space for this upcoming piece to provide participants with an optimal setting to contemplate their perceptions of the world, as well as their relationships with their environment.

Choreographer and Scaler founder Yoko Koike directs this piece with music by composer and DJ Toru Yamanaka – one of the founding members of the art collective known as Dumb Type. The perfomers dancing to Yamanaka's composition are Takako Kawaguchi – a former member of the Dumb type group – and Tadashi Shimada, whose career has led him to perform in cities such as Singapore, Seoul and Malaysia.

Alongside the dancers, photographer Yuji Ueno will be presenting his motion picture arts piece ‘Chrysalis’. Inspired by a phenomenon observed in some insects where larvae eventually turn into moths or butterflies, Ueno’s visuals underscore the show’s underlying theme of transitions.

The performance times are as follows: from 7.30pm on December 2, from 2pm on December 3, from 6pm on December 3 and from 3pm on December 4 (shows are an hour long). You can book your tickets here
