Time Out says

Whether you’re an art enthusiast or sake lover, you won’t want to miss this enticing evening event where you can enjoy a mix of modern art while sipping quality brews from all over Japan. To bring you the best of both worlds, SBI Art Auction has teamed up with Sakejump, an organisation dedicated to promoting sake culture and up-and-coming nihonshu brewers to a worldwide audience.

Thursday Lates Powered by Sakejump is a platform for connecting art lovers by extending the opening hours of an art auction preview all while enjoying sake in the midst of art. The combination of art and sake might be an unlikely one, but the enjoyment of art shares many similarities with sake culture. As the process of sake brewing reflects the traditions and customs of each brewing region, the appreciation of art also delves into the discovery of different artists and their contributions in a similar way.

This event is inspired by the hometowns of the featured artists, whose works – and places of origin – will be paired up with 12 types of sake from emerging breweries across the country.

Some of the art you can look forward to seeing includes an early 1980s piece by Hyogo prefecture native Tadanori Yokoo, a renowned graphic designer, printmaker and writer, as well as an artwork from Kishio Suga, a star sculptor and installation artist associated with the Mono-ha movement.

Sake served during the event will be brought in from brewers across the country, including Miyake Sake Brewery in Hyogo prefecture, Kikunotsukasa Sake Brewery in Iwate prefecture and Yachiyo Sake Brewery in Yamaguchi prefecture.

For details on how to participate in the auction, visit the website. Admission for the Thursday Lates event is free, but you must register online in advance (application deadline is June 28).
