Tokyo Suki Festival

Ueno, Tokyo's premier museum centre, takes art out into the open at this three-day festival packed with installations, concerts and fun workshops. Likely highlights include Katsuhiko Hibino and Sayaka Shimada's 'fire art' on Shinobazu Pond (Friday from 6.30pm), contemporary artist Shinji Ohmaki's soap bubble performance 'Memorial Rebirth' (three times daily at Ueno Park's Fountain Plaza) and the displays of animal-themed mikoshi shrines created by students at nearby Tokyo University of the Arts. Meanwhile, all of Ueno's major museums, including the Metropolitan Art Museum and the National Museum of Western Art, stay open until 8pm on Friday and Saturday.
