Time Out says

2022 marks 77 years since the end of the Pacific War, which means that the length of time that has passed between the present and Japan’s last war is equivalent to the time between the beginning of the Meiji Restoration and the end of the Pacific War. While Japan’s symbols across each of its eras vary greatly, there is still a confluence that runs through the nation’s past, present and future.

Through the works of both pre-war and post-war artists, this commemoratory exhibition at the Gyre Gallery aims to connect thinkers and creators of Japan's past with the young artists of today. Highlighted artists include On Kawara (1932-2014), Kimiyo Mishima (1932-present), Natsuyuki Nakanishi (1935-2016) and Jiro Takamatsu (1936-1998), whose artworks represent Japan's epoch-making cultural movements of the 21st century.
