Time Out says

German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans gained international recognition in the 1990s for his raw, candid portraits of friends, club-goers, and political activists. He has since expanded his artistic practice to include a wide range of subjects and techniques, from still lifes and landscapes to abstractions and installations. His works often blur the boundaries between genres and challenge conventional notions of photography and representation. Tillmans has received numerous awards and accolades for his work, including the Turner Prize in 2000, becoming the first non-British artist to receive the prestigious award.

He has exhibited his work in major institutions around the world, including the Tate Modern in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In addition, his works can be found in the collections of many museums and galleries, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Through his works, Tillmans questions existing values and hierarchies, pairing intimacy and playfulness with social critique. The exhibition at Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo is part of the Hors-les-murs programme of the Fondation Louis Vuitton and offers Tokyo audiences the opportunity to experience Tillmans' oeuvre firsthand.
