Kakuuchi Base in Shibuya Stream is hosting a week-long pop-up bar to celebrate shochu from Miyazaki prefecture. Manning the bar are five renowned bartenders from Japan and the USA, who will be creating shochu-based cocktails exclusive to the event.
This event is part of the Miyazaki Shochu Experience project, whose aim is to promote the appeal of the prefecture’s premium shochu. The three bartenders invited from the US are Alex Day, who is the co-owner of Death & Co bar in New York, and Tyson Buhler and Vlad Novikov, who hail from Silver Lyan bar in Washington DC. Joining them are fellow Japanese bartenders Yujiro Kiyosaki and Hideyuki Saito.
To create the special event cocktails, all five bartenders visited Miyazaki for ideas. Some of the drinks are inspired by the prefecture’s subtropical climate, while others take influences from Miyazaki’s age-old shochu-making techniques. Aside from these unique cocktails, the bar will also be serving shochu from ten Miyazaki breweries.
