It's either a stroke of PR genius or the right time after a long road of preparation, but finally, out of the blue, it is happening: a Yayoi Kusama museum is coming to Tokyo. Or rather, it has already come to the capital, seeing as the building located near Waseda was completed back in 2014 – without anyone knowing what its ultimate function would be.

The only sure thing was that it was owned by the Yayoi Kusama Studio, but as nothing happened for a good three years, the strangely vacant structure started slipping from people's minds.

But all has finally been revealed, and the Yayoi Kusama Museum will officially be opening its doors on October 1. The first exhibition, entitled 'Creation is a Solitary Pursuit, Love is What Brings You Closer to Art' will be on from that date until February 25, 2018 and is set to feature works from the bewigged contemporary artist's 'My Eternal Soul' series.

Note that entry is by time slot (four per day; the museum will be open Thursday though Sunday) and that buying tickets in advance is highly recommended – look for this one to attract hordes of both genuinely artsy types and Instagram-addicted trend-hunters right off the bat. Reserve yours through the museum's website beginning August 28.
