Note: this event is not in Tokyo, but in Shiga prefecture near Kyoto.
In its ninth run this year, the Biwako Biennale takes place in the cities of Omi-Hachiman and Hikone in Shiga prefecture. Contemporary art exhibitions are scattered throughout 18 venues, most of them restored historical townhouses and factories from the Edo period (1603-1868), forming a picturesque traditional cityscape for great photo ops. This year’s theme is Cosmic Dance, with over 60 domestic and international artists displaying their work over a period of about six weeks.
