Ponder the serious issue of food waste with a brew in hand on the sixth floor of Shinjuku's Newoman, where the Campus terrace will be turned into an outdoor cinema on the evening of September 25. The flick to be screened is German documentary Taste the Waste (2010), which explores how and why up to half of all the food produced globally is thrown away. Japan is one of the worst culprits: every year, five to nine million tonnes of edible food is discarded in this country – in cold hard cash, that amounts to a whopping ¥111 trillion. Should be an informative one for every Tokyoite – especially if your Japanese is good enough to understand the talk set to take place before the screening.
