The 12th edition of this annual festival at Shinjuku's Wald9 features the best of contemporary Latin American and Spanish cinema, including Mexican director David Pablos's hard-hitting drama The Chosen Ones (Las Elegidas) and Beyond My Grandfather Allende (Allende, mi abuelo Allende), an in-depth documentary look at the Chilean president's life and the impact of his ousting and death in 1973. Although not strictly a Latin film, Peter Greenaway's controversial Eisenstein in Guanajuato also gets its place in the sun. A total of 17 films will be screened over five days – see the full list here.
All films are shown with Japanese subtitles only.
