Time Out says

For four days in September, Shibuya Sky is screening music-related films under the stars. This open-air rooftop cinema is part of the Image Forum Festival 2022 and it will feature four international films.

The event kicks off with ‘Sisters with Transistors’ (2020) on September 16 (and September 24). This American documentary on the history of electronic music introduces the women who discovered the possibility of transcending the traditional limits of music through their fascination with electronic devices.

On September 18 (and September 25), you can enjoy the Indian movie ‘Sarvam Thaala Mayam’ (2018), a story about a young man who aims to become a professional mridangam player, a type of percussion instrument mostly used in Carnatic music.

On September 24, drop by for ‘Tralala’ (2021), a musical comedy about a middle-aged Parisian street musician. The documentary ‘Roaring Abyss’ (2015), which is scheduled for September 25, will take you on a musical journey across Ethiopia.

The movies are expected to be screened in their respective languages with Japanese subtitles. For the full screening schedule and updates in case of bad weather, see here (in Japanese only. The outdoor cinema is free, but you’ll need to get a ticket to Shibuya Sky (¥2,000, or ¥1,800 if booked in advance).
