Uplink Kichijoji is known for showing the best in independent and arthouse films, both classic and modern. From June 12 to 25, Uplink will play the documentary ‘I Am Not Your Negro’ in honour of the Black Lives Matter movement. The documentary is based on the writing of novelist and essayist James Baldwin, who discusses the history of anti-black racism in the United States as well as the influential work of Malcom X, Martin Luther King Jr and Medgar Evars, all prominent leaders in the civil rights movement. The film will be shown in English and subtitled in Japanese.
Showtimes will be announced on Uplink’s official website.

Uplink opened its doors in stage two of Tokyo’s reopening plan on June 1. The theatre has increased its safety measures and is asking all visitors to wear face masks, social distance, and avoid visiting if feeling ill. More detail on the safety measures can be found here (Japanese only).
