Said to help improve circulation and relieve back pain, the brown-coloured ‘medicinal’ bath at Chitose-yu is tried and tested: it's based on a recipe from the Edo period (1603-1868). There's free-to-use shampoo and conditioner, and towel rental is included in the entrance fee.
