Despite its popularity amongst Tokyoites in the know, the Ebisu district, only one station away from Shibuya, is relatively young as a cultural destination. Since its industrial beginnings in the late 19th century as a beer-brewing town, it's evolved over the last few decades with the opening of the Yebisu Garden Place shopping and lifestyle complex, numerous fine-dining restaurants, music venues, studios and galleries. Now, with the introduction of the Tokyu Stay Shibuya Ebisu hotel, international visitors have even more reasons to visit – and new ways to connect with the neighbourhood more deeply.

Location, location, location

Situated directly opposite Ebisu Station, originally a freight terminal for the town’s namesake Yebisu Beer brewery, Tokyu Stay Shibuya Ebisu’s connections to local history begin with its exterior. A nod to the brickwork of the former brewery and the current Yebisu Garden Place, its facade blends into its surrounding cityscape.

The hotel offers easy access to local highlights such as the Yamatane Museum of Art, Tokyo Photographic Art Museum and Ebisu’s eclectic dining scene, which ranges from casual options like the Ebisu Yokocho bar alleyway to omakase sushi, teppanyaki and international fine-dining restaurants. The statue of Ebisu, the Japanese deity of wealth and prosperity for whom the beer was named, also stands outside Ebisu Station.

Other hip neighbourhoods like Daikanyama and Nakameguro are also within walking distance, and with Shibuya, Harajuku and Meguro mere stops away on the Yamanote Line, you’ll have endless options for local discovery and immersion.

A delicious legacy awaits

Inside, large windows and an outdoor terrace seamlessly connect the lobby with the neighbourhood outside. The lobby’s tastefully diffused lighting, natural materials and minimalist design evoke a sense of warm, comfortable familiarity, and the reception bar counter at its centre offers a place to check in and enjoy a welcome drink. Yebisu Beer was founded by what became Sapporo Breweries, and as such, the bar features special collaborations, including a dessert-style Sorachi Latte Cocktail and a Black Beer Ice Cream, a combination of the hotel’s own Ezaro ice cream and Yebisu Premium Black beer, which is served exclusively to overnight guests.

Next to the bar on the second floor, Ezaro adds an all-day dining option to Ebisu’s ever-growing culinary scene, featuring tables, private rooms and outdoor terrace seating. In the morning, the menu offers staples like eggs Benedict, French toast and freshly baked breads, while lunchtime sees salads and a variety of pasta options. In the evening, the parade of signature dishes expands to include delicacies like caprese salad, shrimp and pistachio risotto and Kuroge wagyu aitchbone steaks with black pepper, as well as an extensive drinks menu and a selection of decadent Italian-inspired desserts.

You’ll get to live like a local

The hotel’s emphasis on local collaboration extends to every element of its hospitality. Upon arrival, you’ll be served a welcome drink of tea or coffee featuring Tokyu Stay Shibuya Ebisu’s original blends, developed in partnership with a local tea house and a neighbourhood coffee shop. Upstairs, most rooms feature washer-dryers, with the original liquid detergent provided created together with Three Fields, a brand that uses all-natural ingredients.

Back downstairs, a local guide map compiled by hotel staff and guest curators directs you to lesser-known dining, shopping and entertainment options. The guide map can be downloaded for easy use while exploring the town. The Stay Select Bar features a carefully curated line-up of items from Japanese brands, including skincare and everyday essentials recommended by Tokyu Stay, that guests are welcome to purchase and enjoy at home. Going beyond mere discovery, the Stay Select Bar invites guests to incorporate the products’ Japanese design aesthetics and everyday ingenuity into their daily routines after their trip.

Tokyu Stay Shibuya Ebisu is just the latest chapter in Ebisu’s ongoing evolution. Much like the deity, the neighbourhood has since become one of prosperity and good fortune, and home to nearly limitless opportunities for serendipitous discovery. Through its collaborations and local insight, Tokyu Stay invites you to truly immerse yourself in all the area has to offer.

Tokyu Stay also invites you to enhance the quality of your trip at the newly opened Aoyama Arrival Reset Lounge. See the facility website for more details.
