This red brick building was built in 1916 as Yamagata Prefecture's main cultural facility, and was later recognised as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The Bunshokan underwent comprehensive renovations between 1986 and 1996, and now houses permanent exhibitions, assembly halls, galleries and rentable meeting rooms.
