NOTE: A 'serious middle ear infection' has forced Chilly Gonzales to cancel his trip to Japan this week. You can hear him apologise here, but he'll also be offering ticket holders a free download of The Unspeakable Chilly Gonzales accompanied by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra as consolation
The understated etudes contained on Chilly Gonzales' Solo Piano II album may not seem like the kind of music to inspire rabid devotion amongst listeners, but his first show at Le Theatre sold out so far in advance that the promoters have pencilled in an extra gig on the same night. Best known – albeit indirectly – for his work with Feist, the Canadian multi-instrumentalist has also carved out an impressive catalogue of wryly comedic hip hop albums. When he's behind the piano, though, he takes his pointers from the likes of Satie and Chopin, making these shows an ideal option for a romantic post-Valentine's date... assuming you can get a ticket.
