You could probably draw a line between today's party rappers and Lil’ Jon, the metal-mouthed King of Crunk who's been galvanising dancefloors with his blend of jacked-up bass and hollered catchphrases since the mid-'90s. Tellingly, the Atlanta-born MC has been collaborating with some of the leading lights of the dance-rap scene recently, including LMFAO and Will.i.am – suggesting that his forthcoming Party Animal album might dial back the crunk in favour of some more voguish electro sounds.
