Time Out says

Time Out in association with Mirai Tokyo

This double-bill audio-visual performance is led by Richie Hawtin, a renowned Canadian electronic musician and DJ, as well as Alva Noto, a well-acclaimed sound artist who’s known for his collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto.

For Mirai (Japanese for ‘future’), both artists are putting on an audio-visual extravaganza that fuses music with technology and advanced lighting and visual spectacle. To bring this to live, the performance space will feature high definition LED screens and sound equipment that project a super-heavy bass.

One of the leading names in techno, Hawtin has performed at international music festival and clubs, and this set at Mirai Tokyo is part of his current world tour ‘CLOSE - Spontaneity & Synchronicity’. For this ambitious set, Hawtin will be using a series of strategically placed cameras to capture his movements on the decks and project them on screen, thus creating an intimate and immersive experience for the audience as if they were part of his sound creation and manipulation process.

Alva Noto’s set, on the other hand, is a cutting-edge show synchronising sound and visual, which is inspired by his latest album ‘Unieqav’, the final installment in his experimental music trilogy known as ‘Uni’.

In addition, Berlin-based artist Akiko Kiyama will be performing her newest project AALKO. Kiyama is especially popular in Europe for her extraordinary ability to merge different genres of music together. She is known to use classical instruments to create breakbeats as well as minimalist techno.
