Rare is the laptop producer who wouldn't doff their cap to Robert Henke, aka Monolake. From his early releases on the seminal Chain Reaction label to his key role in developing DJ/production software Ableton Live and experiments with wave field synthesis and ambisonics (ask Wikipedia), he's been a consistently innovative force in the world of electronic music for a couple of decades now. In recent years, Henke has struck up a fruitful collaboration with Dutch audio-visual artist Tarik Barri, who's helped him transform his Monolake live sets into immersive, surround-sound experiences. Adventurous listeners looking to take the plunge can catch the duo's acclaimed Ghosts in Surround show at Unit on September 8, where Henke and Barri will be playing an evening gig followed by an all-night party with support from DJs Nobu, Numb and Kyoka. Note that there are limited tickets available for both shows.
