Possibly the world's top jazz festival, the longstanding Montreux Jazz is way bigger than the Swiss town that's been hosting it every year since 1967. After a successful Tokyo debut last year, this groovy celebration now returns for a long October weekend, with three days of jazz, rock, blues, reggae, soul and world music gigs taking place in the Ebisu-Daikanyama area. The performers range from DJ extraordinaire Gilles Peterson and club jazz doyen Toshio Matsuura to chameleon-like pianist Francesco Tristano, Detroit techno icon Derrick May and Yukihiro Takahashi's Metafive outift – something for everyone, in other words. The full programme for the two main venues, Yebisu Garden Hall and Unit, is here.
