It isn't just Mr. Big and Spinal Tap who've enjoyed uncommonly strong followings in Japan. There was mild bemusement in Austin, Texas when people discovered that Stanley Smith, a local musician best known from his stint as clarinetist for the Asylum Street Spankers, had found an enthusiastic audience for his career as a solo singer-songwriter in Japan.
