The last time The Five Corners Quintet played at the Blue Note Tokyo turned out to be the last time they played anywhere: the Finnish jazz combo have been on hiatus ever since. Which is a crying shame, really, as the release of concert album The Helsinki Sessions last year only confirmed their reputation as a sizzling live act – one that manages to remain respectful to the legacy of '60s-style modern jazz and be infectiously groovy at the same time. It's not club jazz, exactly, but the Five Corners could definitely get a crowd dancing. Accordingly, the Blue Note have booked estimable DJ Tatsuo Sunaga to play warm-up sets for each of these shows.
