On September 4, Cuban-Jamaican trombonist and composer Rico Rodriguez passed away unexpectedly at the age of 80, shocking the ska world both in his adopted home of London and in Japan, where this pioneering artist's influence also runs deep. Having combined burru drumming and rasta chants with R&B, ska and reggae over a career spanning well over six decades, Rodriguez will be honoured by the likes of the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, King Nabe, Dr Ihara and Tommy Far East, with all proceeds donated directly to the fallen great's family.
