The first Japan outpost of the super popular New York-based discount ticket booth TKTS is now open in Shibuya. Located at the main entrance of shopping and entertainment hub Shibuya Hikarie, it offers tickets to selected events and shows on the day or the following day at a reduced price, with discounts between 20 and 50 percent.

Unlike its sister store in New York, which only focuses on Broadway musicals and theatre plays, the Tokyo TKTS also provides tickets for traditional Japanese performing arts, such as noh and kabuki, music and sport events, as well as a variety of exhibitions.

However, online reservation service is not available for TKTS Tokyo. To get your discounted tickets, you’d have to visit the Shibuya booth in person. Nevertheless, you can check out what shows and events are on offer at its websiteDon’t speak or read Japanese? Don’t worry; the booth’s signage has English and the on-site staff speak English, Korean, Italian and even Albanian.

There are several more TKTS booths in Tokyo, including in Shibuya 109, Shinjuku Tourist Information Centre, Tokyo City i in Marunouchi, and various other locations across the city. For those residing or travelling to Osaka, TKTS Namba will open on September 5.
