For all your salt-related needs, there's no better place to be than the salt specialist Ma-suya in Azabu-Juban. This is not your average grocers as it offers a staggering selection of 300 different types of salt for every imaginable purposes, from food seasonings to bath and beauty products. Who would have thought there are so many different types of salt?

Also, bet you didn't know Japan produces salt — and a lot of it for that matter. You wouldn't necessarily associate Japan with this everyday condiment, but salt production is quite prominent in our island nation, particularly around the islands of Okinawa where Ma-suya first started out.

Taste test all sorts of salt at the salt bar

Don't know where to begin? That's where Ma-suya's salt sommeliers come in. Just ask them for help, and they'll recommend the perfect salt for your needs. You can even test taste all the options at their salt bar before making your final choice. The seasoning salt in particular are very useful as they can be added to mayonnaise or ketchup to make a quick and tasty dip.

Try the salt-flavoured soft serve topped with hibiscus salt

Before you leave the store, you should grab a salt soft serve to end your visit. The ice cream is a lot less salty than it sounds, and you can pair your frozen treat with one of the 12 infused salts available. Just sprinkle it on top and give it a lick — who knows, you might be delightfully surprised by the wasabi salt, or the tangy punch from the shikuwasa citrus salt, or even the salted cocoa powder. Purists can stick to the unadulterated yuki shio salt but you should really go crazy and try them all.
