To commemorate its 90th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s birth, Kawana Hotel in Ito, Shizuoka prefecture, is offering a special accommodation plan, the ‘Marilyn Monroe Tribute Stay: A Kawana Holiday Following in Marilyn’s Footsteps’, until March 31 2028.
This is your chance to relive a little of the Hollywood star’s time in Japan, following in her footsteps from her 1954 honeymoon at the hotel with MLB star Joe DiMaggio. You’ll stay in Room 316 of the main building – the exact same room where the couple stayed – which has been given a few new touches, including Marilyn Monroe-themed paintings, books about the actress, and a record player with a selection of records. The room retains its elegant atmosphere while offering gorgeous views over the nearby sea.
During the stay, guests will be treated to a multicourse dinner featuring the omelette rice that Marilyn reportedly ordered through late-night room service two nights in a row during her stay.
If you opt for the premium plan, you’ll also receive a limited-edition bottle of Piper-Heidsieck, one of the champagnes favoured by the actress, along with a limited-edition Marilyn Monroe mug, available while supplies last.
Rates start from ¥66,400 per person for the standard plan, which includes one night’s accommodation and two meals. The premium plan starts from ¥78,400 per person and includes the special limited-edition gift. For breakfast, guests can choose between a Western- or Japanese-style meal.
For film fans and lovers of historic hotels alike, this special stay offers a unique chance to step back in time and experience a little of the glamour of old Hollywood.
