The eagerly anticipated Super Nintendo World theme park at Universal Studios Japan has postponed its opening yet again due to the recent state of emergency. Fortunately, that didn’t stop the theme park from launching a special Super Nintendo World train, which has started running since January 27.

Operated by JR West, this train runs along the Sakurajima and Osaka Loop lines, the two main routes connecting Universal Studios Japan.

In a style befitting the Super Mario brand, the train exterior is decked out with images of Mario and the whole Super Nintendo World gang. Look closely and you'll spot characters such as Princess Peach, Yoshi, Luigi, Koopa Troopas, Lakitu and Bowser, as well as easter egg details like Piranha Plants, Super Mushrooms, Super Stars and Bullet Bills.

The train was initially intended to start running to coincide with the opening of Super Nintendo World, but has started operations earlier to drum up excitement for the upcoming theme park. So far it looks as if the train will be a permanent fixture and not a one-time promotion exercise, so you can expect to see it travelling around Osaka for the foreseeable future.

Not in Japan? You can still take a virtual tour of Super Nintendo World.
