C3 Lab presents Subtle

It's a hip hop beat bonanza at Circus on Saturday night, as Japan's own avant-garde sound engineers Fumitake Tamura (aka Bun), Tokyoite Bugseed and the Berlin-based Tajima Hal fire up their gear together with vibrant French duo Kodäma and mellow tune maestro Lex (de Kalhex). Lex, who draws on the legacy of late beat legend Nujabes and has won high acclaim among underground connoisseurs on these shores, should draw a healthy crowd, but we're most excited about Kodäma: this combination of vocalist Kiala Ogawa and bassist-producer T-time was mesmerising at Fuji Rock in July, when their trippy neo-soul and electro grooves lit up the Gypsy Avalon stage on Sunday evening.
